Kook Hey-Un

Youn Ga-Hyun
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a self-report scale measuring sexual avoidance behavior based on body image and relationship anxiety. After confirming face validity of primarily selected items, 20 items of body image and 5 items of relationship anxiety were selected for the scale. The scale was administered to 664 university students. As a result of item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, 2 factors were extracted in each subscale (body image, relationship anxiety), respectively. The construct validity was tested by correlation analysis among factors of body image subscales with the factors of the Korean Overall Body Esteem Scale, and the result was quite acceptable. Finally, gender differences were confirmed in body image. That is, women avoid sexual things than men due to negative body image. The findings of this study were discussed in the context of the sexual avoidance scale development and its theoretical bases.
